MAINTENANCE OF DETENTION PONDS AND DRAINAGE EASEMENTS
Most residents don’t realize that responsibility for maintaining storm drain
pipes, easements and detention ponds lies with the homeowner or homeowner’s
association. The City DOES NOT maintain or clean out detention ponds under any
circumstances and in most cases we don’t maintain easements. However, some
easements within the public right-of-way (next to the road) are the City’s
responsibility. The City does not maintain easements on private property. Each
homeowner or homeowner’s association is assigned the task of keeping detention
ponds (wet or dry) and easements clear of debris which can prevent the drainage
system from functioning properly. The biggest cause of clogged easements are
grass clippings, tree limbs, and other yard debris. Please do not dump yard
trimmings into the easements, this type of dumping can cause flooding of nearby
properties and is against the law.
